Legislative Action taken at the 2010 Northern Illinois Annual Conference:

PASSED
  • 600 approves the NIC Budget.
  • 650.01 fixes the Special Sundays for 2011.
  • 680.01 approves employee benefits.
  • 680.02 fixes equitable compensation standards for 2011.
  • 700.01 petitions the Judicial Council to void Decision 1032 which upheld the denial of membership based on the prospective member's homosexual status.
  • 700.02 defines status to include sexual orientation and transgender identity.
  • 700.03R asks the Judicial Council to rule on whether the action of the 2008 General Conference to amend Paragraph 225 of the Book of Discipline supersedes Ruling 1032.
  • 700.04 directs the Board of Ordained Ministry to ensure that no more than a profession of faith and vows of the Baptismal Covenant be required of new church members.
  • 700.05 rules that clergy shall admit to membership any baptized member desiring to join the UMC and avowing the faith.
  • 700.06 encourages and admonishes members and clergy to safeguard the constitutional requirement of inclusiveness.
  • 700.07 affirms the ministry of disabled persons, calls for sign interpreters at each worship service of Annual Conference, and directs that offerings from Disability Awareness Sunday go to alter parsonages that cannot accommodate disabled persons.
  • 700.08 asks churches to educate members about the issue of torture.
  • 700.10 affirms our commitment to ministry in Haiti, including second-mile giving and advocacy for cancellation of Haiti's debt to other nations.
  • 700.11 asks the conference staff to produce and sell a print directory of all clergy, churches and lay leaders and to post it online for free download.
  • 700.12 directs the NIC Foundation to divest investments from Caterpillar, General Electric and Terex, as well as other companies that benefit from the occupation of the Palestinian territories.
  • 700.13 asks the conference to join the Coalition for Juvenile Justice.
  • 700.15 welcomes youth and young adults to church.
  • 700.16 calls for a five-year fund raising campaign to support new faith community starts in the NIC.
  • 700.17 adds a Special Sunday for Harvest 2020 on September 26, 2010.
  • 700.19 advocates for assistance for international delegates to General Conference.
  • 700.22 formalizes the closure of Ohio UMC.
  • 700.23 advocates for comprehensive immigration reform and asks the conference to participate in a prayer vigil in July 2010.
  • 700.24 formalizes the closure of Oswego Prairie UMC.
  • 700.25 advocates for the end of hostilities between the U.S. and North Korea.
  • 700.26 begins a two-year mission emphasis on the celebration of ministry in the Philippines, as well as increased giving and support for sister churches in that hard-hit country.
