Mid-year Apportionment Receipts Up 1.4%, Second Mile Giving Up 129%

As of June 30, 2010, Apportionment giving from local churches was up 1.4% from 2009 for a total of $2,518,919, demonstrating the ever-present faith and generosity of the congregations of the Northern Illinois Conference. Elgin District saw the highest increase over 2009 at 4.2%. Southern and DeKalb Districts were also up by 1.3% and 1.1%, respectively. Aurora, Northwestern and Rockford District Apportionment receipts have held steady. Apportionment giving enables vital mission and ministries at every level of the United Methodist Church, so let us keep this upward momentum going through the second half of 2010! Here’s how you can promote Apportionment giving in your congregation.

Meanwhile, record-breaking Second Mile designated giving has totaled $660,000. More than two-thirds of these gifts (over $450,000) were directed towards UMCOR’s continued relief and recovery efforts in Haiti.

Other Second Mile gifts were designated as follows:

Global Advance projects (Burgundy Band): $24,643   
General/Domestic Advance projects (Red Band): $22,468
Other UMCOR projects (Excluding Haiti relief; Orange Band): $38,513
Conference Advance projects (Green Band): $14,117
District Advance projects (Blue Band): $16,258
Sister Church Relationships (White Band): $1,014

While Second Mile giving is up overall, Special Sunday Offerings are down 4% from 2009.
