Annual Conference 2010 Info Sheet
02-09-2010Northern Illinois Annual Conference – 2010 Session
June 13 to June 16
Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL
On-site Registration/Check-in begins at 12 p.m. on June 13
Deadlines: 1 March 2010
All legislation, historical reports, requests for presentation time, and requests for special meals MUST be received no later than the close of business (5 p.m.) on Monday, March 1st. There will be NO extensions for any reason. Legislation must be in the Action/Rationale format examples of which are on the NIC website. Please send all documents and requests to NIAC2010documents@rocketmail.com. For more information, please speak with Rev. Lora Zink, Conference Secretary, or Rev. Daniel Diss, Chair of Daily Procedures.
Presentations must be rehearsed on Saturday, June 12; Powerpoint is the only software we are running for projection and presentations. Presentations must be submitted for review by the AV Team. Please speak with Susan Gieseler for more information about presentation rehearsal and format issues. Requests for presentation time are to be made to Rev. Diss.
Lodging & Accommodations: Pheasant Run
The Annual Conference Committee has negotiated a special rate for members and guests of the Northern Illinois Annual Conference of $90 a night. In order to receive this special rate, we have had to guarantee filling a block of rooms reserved for us. Please make Pheasant Run your first choice for lodging and accommodations. If we don’t fill the room block, we, the Northern Illinois Conference, pay for the rooms not booked by members and guests.
Please make your reservations with Pheasant Run no later than May 10 so we can fulfill our obligation with Pheasant Run. To get this rate, tell the registration clerk you are part of the Northern Illinois Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Meals
This year we will be offering meals sponsored by particular groups only and encourage participation in the sponsored meals in order to learn about and to celebrate the ministries of these groups. There will be no buffet for meals this year. Within 1/2 mile of the facility are several dining establishments. There are also several venues from which to purchase your own meal within Pheasant Run.
What To Bring
We will be projecting all the information you will need for worship, but you may want to bring your own copy of The United Methodist Hymnal and The Faith We Sing. Bring your Bible so you can more easily participate in Bible Study with Sr. Flood. Bring a jacket or sweater; because adjusting the temperature in the Mega-center is different than adjusting the temperature in our homes, and it takes 24 hours for a temperature adjustment to be completed, it will be to your advantage to have a sweater or light jacket to help maintain your comfort.
Please bring your pre-conference packet which you will be able to download from the NIC website the week following Easter. Bring along a travel coffee mug or other drinking vessel for your personal use.
Registration
You will be able to register on-line for our annual conference after March 15th. The cost will be $50 (plus fees) per person before 1 June 2010. After June 1, the fee will be $65 (plus fees). During your registration process, you will be able to purchase your tickets for sponsored meals, pre-order a hard copy of the 2010 Journal for $25 (on-line copies will be free), and the Youth Day/Youth Rally T-Shirt for the opening day of annual conference.
Special Emphasis on Youth
On Sunday, June 13th while the Laity Session and the Clergy Session are underway, there will be a Youth Rally. Our opening worship service will be at 7:15 p.m. featuring the leadership of our youth and a mass youth choir. All youth willing, able, and desiring to participate in the choir are encouraged and welcome to join the choir. All youth from across the Northern Illinois Conference are encouraged to join in the rally, Global Feast, and worship. It will be a great day for the youth of the Northern Illinois Conference!
Pre-Conference Materials
The week after Easter the pre-conference materials will be available for downloading from the NIC website (http://www.umcnic.org). If you cannot download or print the materials at home, ask your Church Office to print you a copy. If your Church Office is unable to assist you, ask your District/Regional Office for assistance. There will be three sections to the downloadable materials: Legislation, Historical Reports, and Advertising. Download as much or as little as you like.
Distribution of Materials & Being Ecologically Friendly
Distribution of materials at the tables will be limited to those items which directly relate to the business before the annual conference in session. If you or your group has material to distribute, there will be a distribution table from which folks may pick-up your materials at their leisure. You may also distribute at your display table or in the entry area if you or your group wish to distribute in person. Only pre-approved items pertaining to the business before the annual conference in session will be distributed by the ushers inside the Mega-center. We have adopted these distribution rules, are using as much electronic distribution of materials, and encourage members and guests to bring their own coffee mug or other drinking vessel in order to be as ecologically friendly as we can. The less paper we produce, the less waste. The less disposable cups we use, the less waste.
