Reliant Bank Sponsors "Teach Children to
Save" Day for Second Consecutive Year
The Franklin Club hosted 15 Reliant Bank employees
von April 27th. Younger club members interacted with the Super Saver Girl
and learned how to open a savings account, how to count money and studied
the definitions of common financial terms. Teenagers were giving the
hypothetical situation of being stranded on an island. They worked
together to create a budget, deciding which items would be a need and
which items would be a want. The teens were also asked how they would
allocate $25,000 if they won it tax free. Bank employees stressed the
importance of saving and providing for immediate family needs. Club
members were rewarded with gold dollars after completion of the session.

Middle Tennessee Youth of the Year Candidate
Nicholas J. Tucker
Nicholas was born on September 3, 1992 at the Williamson County Medical Center located in Franklin, Tennessee weighing ten pounds and three ounces. He is the oldest of three siblings. Nicholas is an honor student at Franklin High School. He was a member of the Young Leaders Franklin group, and also attended the Rotary Youth Leaders Award camp held at Austin Peay State University in the summer of 2009.
Nicholas was a drummer in the Freedom Middle Band. He has played the drums since he was five years old. For eight years, he has played the drums for Nashville's Rose of Sharon Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to the Freedom Middle Band, he also played on the school's basketball team. He currently plays on a basketball team in the Williamson County Recreational League.

Club Member of the Month
The Franklin/Williamson County Boys & Girls Club recently announced Ariel Robinson, a 5th grade student at Freedom Intermediate School as their newest Club Member of the Month. Ariel was chosen for going the extra mile during Power Hour by completing her own homework and assisting her peers, as well. Additionally, she is said to be quite the athlete, especially when it comes to basketball. On top of all of that, Ariel is described as being a very motivated hard worker who constantly has a respectful and positive attitude within the Club. Congratulations, Ariel!

Franklin/Williamson County Club Members Participate in Election
The Boys & Girls Club of Franklin/Williamson County’s Torch Club held its annual election on September 22, 2009 in order to choose new members for the coming year. A Torch Club is a small group of members within a Club that work together to develop programs for the Club and participate in community service in order to develop additional skills in character and leadership. Interested candidates spent the weeks leading up to the election date campaigning throughout the Club to gain support from other Club Members and inform others of the position they desired. On the day of the election, the candidates each presented speeches explaining their plans for the year and identifying personal qualities that made them the best fit for the position. Congratulations to the Torch Club’s newest members: Jordan Bowie-President, Dimitri Thomas-Vice President, Chantelle Dodson-Secretary, Heaven Sparkman-Treasurer, and Briseyda Sanchez-Sergeant of Arms!
Successful Program entitled “Feed Our Future”
Started by Local High School Junior
Victoria Calton, a member of the United Way of Williamson County Youth Action Council, has started a project entitled “Feed Our Future” in conjunction with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN, the Boys & Girls Club of Franklin/Williamson County, and the United Way of Williamson County. Calton, a junior at Ravenwood High School, started “Feed Our Future” with the goals of providing nutritious snack packs to at-risk children on a weekly basis and educating the general public about the challenges faced by the many children that may go hungry during the summer, on the weekends, or simply after the school day has ended. Through her efforts, 80 children received the weekly snack packs in the months of June and July. Victoria plans to not only continue, but also expand the program during the school year by adding various school supplies to the packages. Second Harvest Food Bank, parents at Brentwood High School, members of United Way, and various friends and family members generously donated the items needed to assemble the snack packs. Victoria has devoted much of her personal time to the actual assembly and delivery of the snack packs and to promoting the program through the Miss America Teen Tennessee organization.
