Bethesda Campground UMC - Prayer Shawl Ministry
09-30-2009
The prayer shawl group meets on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall at Bethesda UMC to knit or crochet the shawls and to have fellowship together. There are women with experience in knitting and crocheting that will teach beginners. There are instruction books, hooks, needles, and yarn available to practice on. Several shawls with yarn colored in red, white, and blue were sent with military folks stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
After the shawls are completed the shawls are placed in bags waiting to be used. Once the need arises, the shawl is presented on Sunday morning worship and each shawl is prayed over by each person in the congregation that Sunday morning and then delivered to the one in need. The prayer shawl group, the congregation, and pastor believe in the power of prayer and healing that comes with each shawl. Each shawl extends the love of the group, each person of the congregation and the love of God to those facing serious illness or stress in their lives.
