Youth Mission trip to Monticello, Iowa

Youth and adult leaders from Faith UMC in Freeport and Upon This Rock Cooperative Parish of Rockford took the new Rockford District Mission Trailer on its first trip.  On July 12, Pastor Eric Blachford and I led a group of 23 adults and youth to Monticello, Iowa to work at Camp Courageous of Iowa, a camp for those with mental or physical challenges.

We built a railroad tie stairway down 75 feet of steep hillside, cleared brush from recent storms, hauled firewood, spread gravel and other jobs to help prepare the camp for another season of service.

Our theme was "Go – God is with you wherever you Go." Each morning the group shared devotions and focused on where God was calling them to "Go," and each evening their Bible study focused on how others had responded to God's call on their life.

The trailer is a mission project of the Rockford District, purchased by the District's Mission Committee with funds collect from Distirict churches.  The trailer will be used by the district churches to haul tools on mission trips and will be stoked with tools so it may respond immediately to crisis situations.
